Delhi-NCR Rattled Again: Second Quake in 48 Hours Strikes Near Jhajjar!

Delhi-NCR felt the earth shake again on Friday evening, July 11, 2025, as a 3.7-magnitude earthquake hit near Jhajjar in Haryana. This was the second quake in just two days, following a stronger 4.4-magnitude tremor that struck the same area on Thursday morning at 9:04 AM. Both quakes had their epicenters in Jhajjar, about 50-60 kilometers west of Delhi, and occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

The tremors on Friday were felt around 7:49 PM across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and even as far as Meerut and Rohtak. People in high-rise buildings and homes reported feeling mild shaking, with many rushing outside for safety. “I was having tea when the ground started moving. It was scary, especially after Thursday’s quake,” said Anil Sharma, a resident of Ghaziabad. No injuries or major damage have been reported so far, but the back-to-back quakes have left people worried.

Delhi-NCR lies in Seismic Zone IV, a high-risk area for earthquakes due to its closeness to active fault lines near the Himalayan belt. Experts say such tremors are not uncommon, as the region has seen over 400 quakes in the last three decades, though most are mild. Just earlier this year, on February 17, a 4.0-magnitude quake shook Delhi with its epicenter near Dhaula Kuan.

Residents are now asking if more quakes could follow. “Two earthquakes in two days is unsettling. We need to be prepared,” said Priya Malhotra, a schoolteacher in Gurugram. Authorities are urging people to stay calm but cautious, advising them to follow safety measures like moving to open spaces during tremors and avoiding elevators. The NCS is closely monitoring the situation, and people are encouraged to download the BhooKamp app for real-time updates.

As Delhi-NCR recovers from the shock, these quakes are a reminder of the region’s seismic vulnerability. Stay safe and keep emergency plans ready!
