Summary: Whizzo, a pioneering materials science manufacturing startup, has successfully raised $4.2 million in its seed funding round. The investment was led by Lightspeed, with additional backing from BEENEXT. This funding will be instrumental in advancing research and development in materials science, setting up a cutting-edge design lab for fashion-engineered textiles, and reinforcing its supply chain across India, Vietnam, China, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.
Founded in 2024 by Shrestha Kukreja, a former Zetwerk executive and IRMA alumnus, Whizzo is at the forefront of textile innovation. The company specializes in developing proprietary textile blends, including cellulosic and polymer-based fibers, designed to cater to various industries while optimizing production timelines.
“Our mission is to position Whizzo as a leader in fashion-engineered and technical textiles through innovation and intellectual property,” said Kukreja. “By developing proprietary blends and utilizing a cross-border Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) model, we aim to address industry challenges, drive sustainability, and enhance global connectivity.”
Romit Mehta, Vice President of Investments at Lightspeed, emphasized the growing importance of technical textiles and synthetic fibers in the global market. He noted that India is poised to emerge as a hub for textile innovation, supported by government initiatives and visionary entrepreneurs. “Shrestha is an exceptional leader with the ambition and expertise to drive an ‘India to the world’ success story in this domain,” Mehta added.
Saksham Pant, Principal at BEENEXT, underscored the need for modernization in India’s textile sector, one of the country’s oldest industries. “Whizzo is spearheading this transformation by leveraging advanced technology and eco-friendly practices,” Pant stated.
The technical textiles industry in India, valued at $45 billion in 2026, is expected to reach $123 billion by 2035. This growth is fueled by demand across sectors such as healthcare, infrastructure, and defense. Whizzo’s diverse product offerings, spanning clothtech, mobiltech, packtech, and agrotech, position the company to serve industries including agriculture, automotive, and industrial manufacturing.
With its strong focus on sustainability and innovation, Whizzo aims to redefine textile manufacturing and establish itself as a global leader in engineered textiles.
